If you are planning a trip to the big apple then you better bring your credit cards because New York City shopping is some of the finest in the world. Here you can buy anything from the most expensive designer jewelry to vintage clothes to exotic foods.
But where do you go find all this great stuff? Here are some tips on where to go shopping in New York City:
Clothing
The garment district is where you will find every type of clothing you can imagine including anything you need to make clothes from buttons to zippers. It is located from 25th Street to 40th and 5th Ave to 9th.
Jewelry
If you love shopping for jewelry then you’ll love NYC where you can find some of the best jewels in the world! If it’s diamonds you seek, then you’ll want to shop West 47th Street between 5th Ave and 6th Ave. If that doesn’t satisfy you, then take a trip down to Bowery and Canal street in the Northwest corner and you will find more jewelry stores with a variety of all types of jewelry.
Art and Trendy Stuff
If it’s trendy you want then browse on over to Soho, a district that was once known for it’s great art galleries. Located from south Houston street (where it got it’s name that means “South Of Houston”) to Canal street and from 6th to Lafayette this area still offers great New York City shopping and, while many of the art galleries have relocated, you can find trendy boutiques and great jewelry stores. There’s also still some art here and you’ll see many wonderful artists selling their work on the sidewalks.
Furniture
Shopping for furniture has never been more fun than in the Flatiron district which runs from 14th to 34th street between Park and 6th Ave. Here you’ll find a lot of the big furniture and textile stores sprinkled with smaller boutiques.
Designer
You can’t take a shopping trip to New York City without visiting Fifth Ave, the setting of famous parades as well as many movie scenes. The area between 49th and 59th streets is where you will find the ultimate in shopping - Bergdorf Goodman, Sax Fifth Ave., Gucci, FAO Schwartz and, of course, the Trump Towers.
Unusual Bargains
If it’s unusual or quirky you are looking for, then you have go down to the Village between Houston Street and 14th Street from Hudson to the East River. This is where you’ll find vintage items, consignment stores and artisans.
Chinatown
A New York City shopping trip wouldn’t be complete without a stop in Chinatown where you will find the diversity of Asian cultures. Here you can enjoy exotic foods as well as get a good bargain on souvenirs and clothes. Leather shops are a specialty here as is the authentic Asian food.
