If you are vacationing in New York, then you’ll want to make a list of New York City attractions that you want to see on your visit. The Big Apple offers a diverse culture that, in itself, is something to experience but along with the fine dining and superb shopping, here are some interesting places you may want to visit.
1. Statue Of Liberty. This symbol of freedom was given to the US by France and has been a symbol of liberty and equality for many immigrants whose first glimpse of the US was this statue. To visit her, you’ll need to take a ferry out to Liberty Island where you can climb around inside this magnificent statue.
2. Ellis Island. Visit the Ellis Island Immigration Museum with it’s many exhibits, tours and displays that will give you a feeling of how the 12 million early immigrants to this country may have felt. The same ferry that takes you to the Statue Of Liberty goes here so make a day of it and see both attractions!
3. Staten Island Ferry. This ferry leaves from lower Manhattan to Staten Island 24 hours a day and is one of the New York City attractions that you can experience for free. Check out the skyscrapers, Statue Of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge and Ellis Island from the historical ferry.
4. Empire State Building. This distinctive building opened in 1931 is a must see attraction for any NYC visitor. Get a view of the city from the top where you can see 80 miles out on a clear day.
5. American Museum Of Natural History. A popular attraction since 1869, the museum offers a revolving array of exhibits along with the Rose Center planetarium. While you are there be sure to visit the Hall of Saurischian Dinosaurs on the 4th floor with the worlds largest collection of dinosaur fossils, and the Hall Of Ocean Life with a 94 foot whale hanging from the ceiling.
6. Metropolitan Museun of Art. See 2 million works of art from throughout history at the Met - one of New Yorks most popular tourist attractions. Here you can see Tiffany stained glass, ancient Roman statues, paintings by Rembrandt and pieces from ancient Egypt.
7. Central Park. No trip to New York would be complete without seeing Central Park. For over 150 years, this 843 acres has provided a respite for concrete and pavement weary visitors and residents. Here you will find paths, lakes and open spaces which will bring you back to nature - hard to believe that the park is entirely man made.
These are but a few of the New York City attractions you will want to add to your list but there are many more places to explore in New York so be sure to add some free time to your vacation agenda.
